Charter Amendment Vote Moves to Final June Session
After Finance Director is Terminated For Cause in Handling of Phishing Scam, Council Members Advance New Job Protections
Hilliard City Council President Omar Tarazi is to introduce legislation June 26 that would direct the Franklin County Board of Elections to place a charter amendment on the Hilliard ballot in either November or the following May.
City Council was to take up the charter amendment proposal June 12 but lacking a quorum to open, that meeting was rescheduled to June 14 where only four members were present.
As such, Tarazi said June 15 he chose to wait until June 26 when all members are expected to attend, to introduce the legislation.
Tarazi said previously he anticipates the legislation would fail 4-3 based on “established ideologies” on the issue but said June 15 that he hopes a support from the Ohio Auditor’s Office might be enough to gain a support of at least a majority of the seven council members.
The proposed charter amendment seeks to make the city’s law director an elected position and would require the confirmation of City Council for the city manager to hire or fire the city’s finance director.
