HOWEVER

Ouch! We’re losing the studio…

We regularly discuss that it is better to know “where the bulldozers are going,” rather than be surprised by them. It’s even better still when you can play a part in directing those bulldozers.

Last week we kinda got bulldozed!

The first installment of the story comes below the following paid subscription line. In the fullness of time we’ll be able to release the complete story to the entire readership. Just know our publication appreciates every reader and now, more than ever, we could use your paid support to continue the Hilliard Beacon and steady our future.

Our friends and neighbors - Leather and Oak Spirits - are the recent recipients of the Hilliard Development Corporation’s “facade improvement grant.”

This $50,000 award was to be matched by ownership for work to be conducted renovating elements of 4057 Grant Street - the former Lee’s Catering. Tortilla owner Walter Eguez was also awarded a $50,000 grant in the same facade improvement category for the same address.

From the agenda of the February Member and Directors meeting 2025

This program aims to effect updates and materially improving the facilities of existing businesses growing in Hilliard

  • The combined project has not developed as envisioned on Grant Street so Leather and Oak have decided to apply the grant to their present address, behind our street-facing unit, on Franklin Street.

  • In order to effect the transformation and requiring street frontage our landlord has made it clear that our recording studio - will be a new whiskey tasting room, open to the public.

  • We have been offered an internal transfer within the overall building - albeit into a much smaller unit - and we are currently evaluating our options so please continue to monitor these updates that we will nest within upcoming Beacon posts.

Also, as a quick preview to our paid members we’re beginning our election coverage this week with interviews of every Democratic Primary candidate - beginning with Dr. Dorothy Hassan!

    Look for that program Wednesday!
