Hoffman Trails Elementary School to stage HPD's National Night Out Aug. 4
The annual event provides an opportunity for citizens, especially children, to meet police and firefighters, checkout cruisers and fire trucks, and learn about the agency's programs and services.

Hoffman Trails Elementary School, 4301 Hoffman Farms Drive, will stage this year’s iteration of National Night Out, hosted by the Hilliard Division of Police, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The Hilliard Division of Police and the Norwich Township Fire Department will have emergency equipment on display at the event.
The Hilliard Division of Police will demonstrate its K9s.
Children will have the opportunity to look inside police cruisers and ladder trucks while adults can learn about programs the departments provide such as vacation house checks, bicycle registration, self-defense classes and the police department’s citizens police academy.
National Night Out also includes children’s games and activities and free light refreshments.
A bicycle raffle and back pack giveaway, courtesy of Target, among the event’s sponsors, will be held during the event.
National Night Out is observed by participating cities and villages across the United States on the first Tuesday of each August, except in Texas where it is staged in October, and is designed to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live, according to the National Association of Town Watch.

The Hilliard Division of Police held its first National Night Out in 2010 and it has since been held the first Tuesday of August at various city parks, schools, and other public sites in the city.
