Norwich Township Fire Department Balances and Extends Coverage with New Station
What it takes to help keep people safe
Norwich Township is on an “aggressive schedule” to begin construction of Norwich Fire Station 84 on the east side of Alton Darby Road just south of Davis Road, said Norwich Township Fire Chief David Baird.
It is to be the fourth Norwich fire station.
Station 81 is on Northwest Parkway adjacent to the Hilliard Division of Police and the Franklin County Fairgrounds
Station 82 is on Walker Road in Brown Township
Station 83 is at Davidson Road and Trueman Boulevard
Hilliard deeded the 3.5 acre parcel to Norwich Township for $1 in January.
The parcel was part of a 124-acre parcel on which construction is underway on Hilliard’s future community recreation and wellness center, adjacent to Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park and the Hilliard Family Aquatic Center.

Norwich’s fourth fire station is expected to cost about $10 million, but could grow higher, Baird and Norwich Township Chairman Chuck Buck acknowledge.
The precise funding mechanism is yet to be determined but is likely to be a combination of cash and issuing bonds, according to Norwich Fiscal Officer Paul Lambert.
“We would like to solicit bids (for construction) this fall and start construction in the spring (2024),” Baird said.
If that goal is met, the station could be open at the beginning of 2025, Baird said.
Station 84 would be about 1,650 square feet and comparable in size to the township’s other department, he said.
The township has yet to determine how much cash it will use and how much it will borrow through the issuance of bonds, and how it will choose to issue the bonds, either by selecting an individual lending institution or publicly selling bonds.
Trustees discussed the possible funding scenarios July 18.
The next step is to hire a construction manager to begin implementing the designs of App Architecture for the new station, and then to confirm a timeline and funding mechanism, Baird said.
The new Station 84 would be just south of Davis Road and a future roundabout on Alton Darby Road with Cosgray Road, which is to be extended southwest to pass through the wellness center campus and meet Alton Darby Road.
