Murdoch should reintroduce it at every future meeting…then Nadia won’t attend until after the election. It’s sad and telling that this is even a partisan issue, but everything seems to be with this board.
Just another example of toxic right-wing political games seeping into our municipality. This resolution is just to align with Tarazi/Carrier and their political stunts. I'm sure they wanted that resolution as a talking point at their wannabe maga rally Sunday.
Kara Crowley is a blowhard grandstander. She had access to the resolution a full 3 days before the meeting, but then said she was surprised by the resolution. I don’t think it is unreasonable to allow the district’s 3rd party analytics firm to review the projections from the comprehensive plan to determine more accurate student growth numbers. That’s what the resolution was meant to do. It just shows that Crowley and Perry aren’t on the board for the students of the district, and only to play partisan political games and further push the dangerous narrative from the teachers union.
The comprehensive plan was passed in April. There was plenty of time to weigh in prior to it's passing and for the 5 months since.
The only partisan grandstanding is from the ones who decided this was a useful election issue and published decidedly misleading, inflammatory campaign ads.
You want to be criticize someone for loafing on the job and not reading a resolution that was plainly available... look no further than Murdoch. She didn't seem to bother to read the community plan "in it's entirety" until Tarazi and Carrier cut a disingenuous promo for their little NIMBY rally. If this was actually about concerns for the district, the right time to ask to allow them time to evaluate would have been 6-8 months ago. They were too busy trying to oppress our LGBTQIA students by attacking their allies at school.
"Dangerous narrative" by @$$. I trust the teachers to know what's best for our kids over these maga-wannabes. All sound and fury, no substance.
What numbers would the analysts use? Will there be 3 three story mixed use buildings? 5 two story apartment buildings? An urgent care, like what is actually going in at Main and cemetery and not a 6 story apartment as portrayed in the video.
The analytics company produces their numbers every year. This past spring, they reviewed their numbers and indicated little to no growth and said that it’s usually 7 plus years after housing is built before any impact of students to the system. Also, mixed use buildings generally bring fewer students. For example,Landmark Lofts in total adds about 12 students over all of its units.
In addition, the facilities commission just finalized their studies and in the 10 years between 2010 and 2020, while Hilliard’s population grew by 10,000, only 350 students were added district wide. That’s about 10 -15 kids per building. Their study shows a flat increase as well.
By State Law, every new development is reviewed with the district to discuss impacts. The school literally has a seat at the table.
The grandstanding was from Murdoch, Tarazi and Carrier’s sky is falling drama. That’s not good governance.
